Celtic Birds

Birds were given a divine and sacred significance by the artist monks in the beautiful illuminated Medieval manuscripts. The Insular style combined Pagan, Mediterranean and Christian styles and the art is a true hybrid invention from ancient times. The Celtic spirit lives on as artists today embrace and reinvent the Celtic motifs in their own work. The legacy from Medieval times is interpreted in a brand-new contemporary expression and the birds as the caring friends of trees and plants contribute enormously to our fascination that goes back so far in time.
